Project: NestWatch

Project Background

NestWatch is a nationwide monitoring program designed to track status and trends in the reproduction of birds, including when nesting occurs, number of eggs laid, how many eggs hatch, and how many hatchlings survive. As STREAM School students become more involved with the management of local habitat a need for understanding birds has emerged. Project NestWatch has students using their geometry knowledge to design, build, test, and use their nest boxes to collect valuable data that will inform next steps in our management of local habitat.

Driving Question

How might we design and build a nest box that provides valuable data on the health of our undeveloped habitat?
